HyperBRIDGE Partners & Innovation Network
Connecting expertise. Advancing hyperloop innovation.
Developing hyperloop technology requires collaboration across disciplines, organisations and borders. From smart infrastructure and advanced communication to system operations and public acceptance, different technologies and perspectives need to come together.
HyperBRIDGE connects companies, researchers and educational institutions from the Netherlands and Germany to explore these challenges. Through five interconnected Work Packages, partners develop, test and share knowledge that could contribute to future mobility and innovation beyond hyperloop.
WP1 – Smart Infrastructure
Making infrastructure safer and smarter
How can we monitor infrastructure and identify potential problems before they become serious?
Together with partners including the University of Groningen (RUG) and Omnidots, WP1 investigates smart monitoring technologies and sound emissions. Research and testing are supported by the European Hyperloop Center in Veendam and INTIS in Emden.
Using sensors and data analysis, researchers explore how infrastructure can be monitored and how sound emissions can be measured and managed. These insights could improve the safety and reliability of future hyperloop systems, while also offering potential applications for railways, bridges and roads.
WP2 – Next-Generation Communication Systems
Connecting the technology behind future transport
A future hyperloop system depends on fast, reliable and secure communication between vehicles, infrastructure and control systems.
WP2 explores the communication requirements of hyperloop and the potential role of next-generation technologies, including 6G. Partners such as Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Nokia and KPN contribute expertise to this research.
The findings could help shape future hyperloop communication systems and support developments in connected and automated transport.
WP3 – Public Acceptance with Immersive Experience
Making hyperloop easier to experience and understand
New technology becomes more accessible when people can see and experience how it might work.
WP3 brings together Hanze, INTIS and Quantumfrog to explore how Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) can help people experience future hyperloop travel.
Through interactive digital experiences and user feedback, researchers investigate public acceptance, passenger expectations and how hyperloop could fit into existing transport networks.
WP4 – Operating System
Bringing technologies together
A future hyperloop network will require different technologies to operate together safely and efficiently.
Led by INTIS, WP4 investigates and develops systems for monitoring, controlling and coordinating hyperloop operations.
By connecting insights from the other Work Packages, this research explores how an integrated hyperloop system could function in practice. The findings may also be relevant to future traffic management and automated transport systems.
WP5 – Sharing the Results
Making knowledge accessible beyond hyperloop
Innovation creates greater value when knowledge is shared.
WP5 brings together partners including Hanze, INTIS, Concept7 and Noorderpoort to communicate research findings and make knowledge from HyperBRIDGE accessible to a wider audience.
Through knowledge sharing, education and initiatives such as HyperBRIDGE.academy, the project connects researchers, businesses and students. It also explores how technologies developed for hyperloop could benefit sectors such as railways, aviation, infrastructure and telecommunications.
Connecting knowledge, collaboration and future innovation
The strength of HyperBRIDGE lies in bringing people, knowledge and technology together across the Netherlands and Germany. Through joint research, practical testing and knowledge exchange, partners explore new opportunities for future mobility and innovation beyond hyperloop.
Research and testing facilities, including the European Hyperloop Center in Veendam and INTIS in Emden, connect scientific research with practical applications. They create opportunities for businesses, researchers and students to collaborate, test technologies and share expertise across different disciplines.
The knowledge gained extends beyond hyperloop itself. Innovations in sensors, software, communication, materials and infrastructure may also benefit other industries. By connecting organisations, including SMEs, with emerging technologies, HyperBRIDGE helps build a cross-border innovation network that supports research, education and technological development.
While hyperloop remains a technology in development, the collaboration and knowledge created through HyperBRIDGE can already contribute to innovation across transport, infrastructure and other sectors.
